Alex’s fifth grade had a patriotic program on Thursday evening. They sang and danced and taught us all about our amazing country. My friend Natilie has already blogged about this here, and I have to agree with her about how touching it was when the students sang each of the theme songs for the different branches of the armed forces. They had anyone in the audience who had served in that branch stand as they sang, and I got more than a little teary-eyed. I am so thankful for the great men and women who serve our country!!! I know that is a little cliche, but it is so true. Alex had a speaking part which was the quote by John F. Kennedy that says, “My fellow Americans, ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country…” He did a great job, as always. He was also in a flag dance at to the tune of Yankee Doodle. I also have to say that I loved the last song, which was “Proud to Be An American.” I first heard that song at Girls State umpteen years ago when I sang it with a choir there, and it has been one of my favorites ever since. It was a great program. Good job, Alex!

Might I just add that I also think Alex did a fantastic job. You know that I think of him as one of my own so I also enjoyed watching him do his part. I loved that program, it was nice to see the future leaders take pride in our country.
